Welcome to the Southern African Space Weather and Ionospheric Information home page. Here you will find information on the ionosphere over Southern Africa and other relevant South African Space Weather information. Any comments or suggestions can be sent to the Regional Warning Centre for Africa at rwc@hmo.ac.za.
If you are new to space weather, please click here for an introduction to the subject. Get the latest space weather conditions and predictions here. Or, if you are interested in the magnetic and ionospheric data for the region, go to the SANSA space weather site here. CURRENT CONDITIONS: Geomagnetic conditions are at quiet levels. Local HF working frequencies are unstable to slightly depressed from monthly average predicted values. OUTLOOK: Propagation conditions are expected to be quiet. A geo-effective coronal hole could elevate solar wind speeds and cause slightly elevated operating frequencies from predicted monthly average values.
Below are the latest images from The SOHO Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope brought to you by The EIT Consortium when available. Full resolution versions of these images can be found at the SOHO spacecraft web site, or by clicking on the images below. The "CCD Bakeout" text that sometimes appear on these images refer to a regular (about once every 5 weeks) maintenance procedure performed on the SOHO satellite. This normally takes about a week, but about 20 days every three months.
